Research Interests

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD):
ablation, aeroacoustics, micro- and nano- flows,
interaction of jets, combustion, interaction of shock waves with vortical inhomogeneities, unsteady vortical flows.
- Ablation studies:
laser ablation in synthesis of nanotubes and in vision correction, coupling of CFD, phase change and heat transfer in laser ablation, long-range plume propagation, interaction of multiple plumes and shielding, shock-capturing techniques, high-speed ablation in hypersonic flight, interaction of turbulence with the plume.
- Aeroacoustics and unsteady aerodynamics: wave propagation in flows using higher-order schemes, amplification of waves in non-uniform flows, vortex-multi-body interaction with sound generation, interactions of single and periodical vortices, modeling of flow about pitching and plunging airfoils for micro air vehicles.
- Micro- and nano- Fluids: Boundary singularity methods (Stokeslets) with partial-slip boundary conditions, modelling of thermo-fluid dynamics in production of carbon nanotubes, laser ablation process, HiPco process, and CVD.
- Parallel Numerical Algorithms: processor scheduling approach to avoid idle stage and reduce communication penalty, theoretical models of parallelization efficacy, authomatic mesh refinement (AMR) on parallel computers, parallelization of high-order compact schemes and implicit schemes, simulation of fluid flow and wave propagation on parallel computers.
- Industrial and Aerospace Applications of Aerodynamics, Combustion, and Heat and Mass Transfer: nano-technology, high-temperature material processing, cyclons, flame-control gas burners, combustion technology.
