Dynamic speakers from engineering corporations discuss career and strategies for success.

The Women in Engineering and Peer Group Discussion Class is designed for female freshman engineering students. The course consists of four components:

  • Dynamic speakers from industry discuss their strategies for success in all disciplines of engineering
  • Lively class discussions surrounding a variety of topics including resume writing, business etiquette and alternative engineering careers.
  • Weekly peer group meetings facilitated by senior engineering students.
  • Facility tours to leading edge engineering corporations.

We have a class especially for women entering engineering studies!
The Women in Engineering Seminar and Peer Group Discussion Class is designed for incoming female freshman engineering students. The course consists of three components; presentations by guest speakers, class discussions, and weekly peer group meetings facilitated by female engineering students in their final year of school. Other activities for building professional awareness include; one to two plant trips to local manufacturing or engineering companies and participation in the Engineering Career Fair. he course is offered each fall semester.  It meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20 - 4:10 pm.  The course number is 4100:110:001.  Goals and Objectives for the course include:

1. Providing a variety of speakers who share their knowledge and experience about the many areas and career options available in engineering.

2. Discuss the ways in which women balance their professional and personal lives.

3. Stimulating involvement and interaction with working women engineers and with other women engineering students and organizations on campus.

4. Providing information and strategies for the academic and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in engineering.

5. Ensuring a small group structure that provides information and promotes supportive relationships and peers with similar academic and career goals.

  • Scholarships: Information and applications for scholarships encouraging females in engineering!
     
  • Counseling: Personal advisement from our faculty and staff!
