Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day
February 26, 2004

Nine teams consisting of a female engineering professor, a female engineering professional, and a female engineering student from the University of Akron participated in Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day during National Engineers Week (Feb. 23 – 27). These teams demonstrated to Middle school students how engineers turn creative ideas into reality.

Students used Slinky's to learn about scientific principles such as potential and kinetic energy and centrifugal forces. The program also gave an overview to the various engineering fields and encouraged 7th grade girls to consider a career in engineering. The following schools were visited: Bolich Middle School, Copley-Fairlawn Middle School, Green Middle School, Kimpton Middle School, Litchfield Middle School, Our Lady of the Elms Middle School, Perkins Middle School, Roberts Middle School, and Spring Hill Junior High (Springfield).
